For those of you on Coumadin you will be happy to hear that HeartFirst does “finger sticks” and uses industry standard protocols for Coumadin management. Only a few drops of blood are required to determine if a dosage adjustment is required. If an adjustment is required, your dosing change is made at the time of your visit and your next appointment is set up before you leave the room. Start to finish you are in the office for approximately 15 minutes.
For all of our new Coumadin patients we offer comprehensive new patient training and education. Our clinic hours are flexible to meet your needs and our staff is pleasant and well trained. If there is a problem, a nurse practitioner is there to see you and evaluate. Although no one wants to be on Coumadin, we make it as pleasant as possible while we reduce your risk of stroke.
Patients who are on the blood thinner Coumadin must closely monitor their dosage to make sure it stays at the correct level. If your level of Coumadin is too high, bleeding problems can occur. If your Coumadin level is too low, clots can form.
There are many medications that can change the results of this test. Please be sure to tell your doctor about all of the non-prescription and prescription medications you are on, as well as herbal remedies or supplements you use.
