Angioplasty, one of the most common medical procedures done worldwide, is done in the hospital setting where a catheter is inserted into an artery in the groin. The catheter is advanced to the heart and dye is injected into the heart arteries which are viewed under x-ray for evaluation of blockages.

It is important to note that President Clinton did not ignore his chest pain especially with his cardiac history. Worse damage could have been done to the heart if he had waited much longer.

If you are having chest pain or increased shortness of breath (especially with exertion) then these are not symptoms to ignore and should be evaluated by a healthcare professional. Dr David Engleman is our Interventional Cardiologist and this is one of the procedures in which he specializes.
